Paleo (a.k.a. David Strackany)

Paleo, the nom-de-plume of prolific folk songwriter David Strackany, reminds me immediately of a cross between Josh Ritter and Langhorne Slim, and his latest single, “Holly Would” (off his new album Fruit of the Spirit, due on Partisan Records June 21st) proves his talent in spades from verse one. If you can listen to these four tightly woven minutes of frenetic, energetic folk music and not feel completely, creatively unfettered, you probably shouldn’t be wasting any more time on this blog. I’ll admit I’m not familiar with Strackany beyond his “write 365 songs in 365 days project” he dubbed The Song Diary in 2007, I’m definitely looking forward to hearing the rest of the album and seeing if it can deliver at the same level. The bar is now high, but I suspect he’s going to be a big part of adding Elgin, Illinois to the musical map.
