She holds for dear life to the ends of the sleeves in her handsCovering up lies that she wrote with a razor sharp penAnd the sting of the blade is no match for the pain
Of the loneliness that she’s going through
But we’ve all been there too
I’ve been holding onto this song and listening to it regularly for several weeks now, waiting for the right moment to post it on the site. Jonny Diaz isn’t a songwriter I’d been aware of prior to receiving an email announcing his new single, “Scars.” But based on his incisive, insightful lyrics and ability to craft a distinctly Christian message into a song I’d feel comfortable playing for any audience, I suspect I’ll soon be hearing much more of his work.
This is contemporary Christian music for those who say they hate anything with a message. The song beautifully speaks of humanity’s ability to rise above and find meaning, eloquently detailing the small things which make our lives worth living. With tomorrow being Easter, I couldn’t think of a more fitting song to showcase at “Hear! Hear!” Regardless of your beliefs, the honesty of this song shows through and makes it a keeper.
